Darren Rhodes
Certified Anusara Yoga® Instructor

Darren's mother Roxanne, began practicing yoga while pregnant with him. Throughout his childhood she practiced and taught yoga in their living room, which decades later became the first Anusara Yoga® Studio in the area. His father Peter, an avid meditator and spiritual seeker, consistently demonstrated and shared his spiritual experiences, explorations, and evolutions with Darren. His parents continue to support, guide, and inspire Darren like no one else on his spiritual path.

In 1996 Darren took his first ever intensive with John Friend. During the first day he knew he had found his teacher. At the end of the week long workshop he timidly asked John if he thought he might be able to teach yoga full-time. John immediately responded, “You can, I know you can, and I’m going to help you.” Those Shakti-filled words manifested just months later when Darren became the director of YogaOasis, which is now widely recognized for its tight knit, artistic, and open hearted kula (community). John transformed his yoga practice into a radical, rock’n life celebration, which is what Darren strives to share in his yoga classes. In 2007, Darren started teaching national workshops and was recently named as one of "21 Talented Young Teachers to Shape the Future of Yoga."

Daily dose: "Vitamineral Green", 87% Dagoba chocolate, and a 20-minute nap.

Favorite books: Spiritual autobiographies about the great yogins who embody the highest teachings yoga has to offer. A few recent favorites are, "14 years with my teacher;" "Miracle of Love;" and "Only God."

Maha Mentors: dk (a.k.a. Durga Kali/Rudra the 2nd), Soul Sister Sianna, and the venerable sri sri sri Lee Lozowick.
